Portsmouth cuts include domestic abuse support

Portsmouth City Council has voted in favour of £11m worth of cuts, including a £180,000 reduction in support for domestic abuse victims, as part of its 2016/17 budget. It needs to cut £31m overall over the next three years. Campaigners claim the budget cuts were “literally playing with people’s lives”. BBC News

Fire service cuts approved
Cutbacks to fire cover across North Yorkshire have been approved despite a public survey which delivered an overwhelmingly negative response to the proposals. Up to six traditional fire engines are to be replaced with smaller tactical response vehicles with a loss of about 40 fire-fighter jobs after North Yorkshire Fire Authority voted the changes through by a majority of 10 to six.
